  • All-electric 2023 Porsche Macan commences testing

A fully-electric 2023 Porsche Macan SUV is undergoing testing in Germany, the company has revealed.

Porsche released images of the battery-powered Macan being driven at its development facility in Weissach, Germany, which will share its underpinnings with the Audi Q6 E-Tron, due in late 2022.

The company also showed how it's using digital simulations to help test aerodynamics, energy efficiency, sound, and user operation.

Using both real-world prototypes and digital models, Porsche says the all-electric Macan will have driven the equivalent of three million kilometres by the time it launches in 2023.

"We started with a flow-around model when the project first started about four years ago," said Dr Thomas Wiegand, Director of aerodynamics development at Porsche. "The digital world is indispensable to the development of the all-electric Macan."

While details of the second-generation SUV have yet to be announced, the 'PPE' architecture upon which it's based is expected to offer more than 400kW, with both rear- and all-wheel drive.

Porsche claims its electric SUV's driving range will exceed that of the brand's Taycan sedan, which offers up to 484km (WLTP) in rear-wheel-drive guise.

The all-electric Porsche Macan will go on sale globally in 2023, with the zero-emissions model to be sold alongside an updated version of the existing petrol-powered Macan.
